Vlogit for Android

A Guest Review, by Jeff Gregory

Vlogit for Android by Wondershare (ver 2.0.1)

Requires Android 4.3.

Vlogit is available in 2 versions – the basic version does not require an account. The full version requires creating a free online account. The basic version is restricted to one level of output quality (HD – 1280 x 720), has a non-removeable watermark, and many of the settings cannot be changed from the default. If you create a free online account, then there is no watermark, there are multiple resolution options, and all settings are adjustable.

Vlogit is produced by Wondershare, who also produce FilmoraGo and other software titles. If you have used FilmoraGo, then Vlogit will have a familiar feel to it.

The Vlogit library includes many templates for animated Intros, titles, stickers and emojis, plus music and sound effects. The Google Play store says that additional content can be purchased, but I could only find additional stickers for purchase at $0.99 each.

The app can do basic PIP, overlay logos, pop-up graphics, fast or slow motion, reverse, and includes many standard editing tools. The “Adjustment” tool set includes brightness, contrast, saturation, sharpness, color temp, and, interestingly, vignette. I found it interesting that vignette was under the “Adjustment” settings tab, rather than the “Filters” tab.

Finished videos can be exported to the camera roll or directly to YouTube. If you create a free account, then finished videos can be exported at four quality levels:

Low – 640 x 360

Medium – 960 x 540

HD – 1280 x 720

Full HD – 1920 x 1080

Pros

Vlogit can be used to produce great-looking videos. It is designed for someone who knows nothing about video editing and is happy to let the app do its thing without wanting to get too involved in what is going on. If you are happy using templates and only want to create a simple video with an animated title and music bed, like a typical Vlog, then this app is easy to use and produces good results.

Cons

The Vlogit timeline only provides a very basic timeline view. It does not show audio or text overlays. To see the audio track, you must click on the audio button, but then you only see the audio, or if you click on the Text button to see the text, you then only see the text layer. You can never see the various elements on a timeline in reference to other elements. For someone who has experience in editing and is used to seeing a typical video timeline, Vlogit can be a frustrating experience due to the lack of a comprehensive timeline view that shows all the various elements being used in the video with reference to each other.

It is very easy to delete an entire project by mistake. When closing a previously saved project, it asks to “Save as Draft” or “Discard.” Since this was a project that I had already saved and since I have not made any changes that I wanted to keep, I chose “Discard” thinking this was similar to other applications that would keep the previously saved project and discard any changes made in this session. However, I found that if you choose “Discard” it will delete your project – without any confirmation that the project is about to be deleted!
