We want to see more ministries “get online,” so the people they are trying to reach can easily find and connect with their ministry there. We wanted to figure out what the easiest and most effective solution is that enables ministries with limited funds, time, and technical skills to launch websites and/or apps. That’s why the Mobile Ministry Forum partnered with OneHope, whose Innovation Team examined possible solutions.
Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) is the technology we believe best enables ministries to grow their digital presence and impact today (particularly if they are already using social media). PWAs are hybrid websites that perform well in situations where the Internet is slow or expensive. They also provide app-like characteristics, including
a) the ability to add an icon for the PWA to a user’s home screen,
b) some offline capabilities, and
c) push-notifications that can be sent to users.
After conducting a detailed review of services that enable PWA creation, we have selected one that we believe is well-suited for ministries desiring to get started or take the next step in digital outreach.
