The power of “Mobile” is surging into view! Google says the future of the Web is mobile. AP Newspaper execs say the future of news is mobile. The BBC says the future of broadcast is mobile. Visa says the future of money is mobile! We want the Christian community to grasp the ministry potential of MOBILE.

Our prayer is that within ten years every unreached person will have had a chance to encounter Christ and His kingdom in a compelling, contextualized fashion through their personal mobile device.

The Mobile Ministry Forum Consultation 2011 will meet at the JAARS offices in North Carolina from Sunday, December 11 (6:00 pm) to Tuesday, December 13 (4:30 pm). We ask that every participant attend the entire consultation, for community and continuity’s sake. We are planning to keep the gathering small, participatory, and highly relational.

Consultation Objectives

  1. Establish and deepen relationships with others active in mobile ministry
  2. Learn from presentations of what is being done in the context of mobile ministry
  3. Create a context for greater partnering. We desire to learn and model healthy interdependence.
  4. Training on specific areas deemed critical
  5. Advance the work of collaborative projects (in-progress and new initiatives)

History: At the first MMF Consultation in Ringgold, Virginia in December, 2010, 16 mission strategists representing 15 organizations gathered. This gathering grew out of an increasing interest in the mobile device and its implications for Great Commission ministry. As a result of this forum, a number of collaborative projects were undertaken. An Executive Summary of the first gathering is available at http://bit.ly/MobileMinistryForumReport.

Participants: Leading thinkers and practitioners from diverse organizations will gather. A list of participants is available upon request. Efforts will be made to accommodate a limited number of remote participants.

Venue: JAARS Headquarters is located in Waxhaw, North Carolina (7405 Jaars RoadWaxhaw NC 28173-7004). For those flying in, use the Charlotte airport. High speed fiber optic Internet / Wi-Fi is available.

Program: The format will allow for discussion, reports, planning, workshop breakouts, and collaborative planning. The “work in progress” program is available at 2011 Forum Schedule.

Fee: The consultation fee is $135. This includes meeting expenses, snacks, and meals (Sunday dinner through Tuesday lunch).

Housing: Housing is available on-site for $35 per night for a single room, $17.50 per night for a shared room (these rates do not include tax). JAARS requires a credit card to hold the room (no deposit required). There is a 24-hour cancellation policy of one night’s stay. Reserve your room online by clicking here (we suggest selecting “Penn Lodge”) or call 704-843-6020 or email housing_JAARS@jaars.org. Our rooming block is being held under “Mobile Ministry Forum.”
