Wycliffe, Orlando, FL
November 28-30, 2012
Time Magazine says, “A tool our parents could not have imagined has become a lifeline we can’t do without.” Google says the future of the internet is mobile. The BBC says the future of broadcast is mobile. Visa says the future of money is mobile. We want the Christian community to grasp the amazing ministry potential of mobile and put it to use!
The MMF Consultation is the key gathering in the world for people interesting in learning how to use mobile technology for the kingdom! Our prayer is to establish a mobile ministry movement so that every unreached person will have a chance to encounter Christ and His kingdom in a compelling, contextualized fashion through their personal mobile device by the end of 2020!
Program: The 2012 Mobile Ministry Forum Consultation will meet at the Wycliffe headquarters in Orlando, FL., from Wednesday, November 28 (5:00 pm) to Friday, November 30 (4:30 pm). The format includes TED-style presentations, discussion, ministry field reports, workshop breakouts, and collaborative planning. The “work-in-progress” schedule is available at 2012 Forum Schedule (Google Doc may require a log-in).
- Advocate / Catalyze: Challenge and resource the Church towards investigating and initiating mobile ministry
- Equip: Resource the Church with the knowledge and tools needed for implementing mobile ministry. Provide training on specific areas deemed critical (mobile site development, texting ministry, etc).
- Collaborate: Establish and deepen relationships with others active in mobile ministry. Create a context for greater partnering. Advance the work of collaborative projects (in-progress and new initiatives)
- Anticipate: Identify and leverage emerging trends and technologies with potential impact on future ministry opportunities.
History: The first Mobile Ministry Forum Consultation was held in Ringold, VA., in December, 2010 and drew 16 mission strategists representing 15 organizations. This gathering grew out of an increasing interest in the mobile device and its implications for Great Commission ministry. A second consultation took place in Waxhaw, NC., in December, 2011 involving 50 participants. A number of collaborative projects have been launched as a result of these consultations.
Participants: Leading thinkers and practitioners from diverse organizations will gather. A list of participants is available upon request. Efforts will be made to accommodate a limited number of remote participants. We expect 60 leading mobile ministry innovators to join us this year.
Venue: Wycliffe Headquarters
11221 John Wycliffe Boulevard
Orlando, Florida, 32832
Fee: The consultation fee is $215. Early registration is $190 (ends September 25). This includes meeting expenses, meals (Wednesday dinner through Friday lunch), and snacks. Please register and pay the full amount online at MMF Registration.
Housing: Limited housing is available on-site for $35 per night in the Wycliffe apartments. Because of the limited housing, all housing arrangements will be shared. Wycliffe has two-bedroom (a queen and two twins) and three-bedroom (a queen and four twins) apartments. Unless traveling with a spouse, we are unable to guarantee roommate requests, but will do our best to accommodate requests made. We are leaving bed selection to each apartment’s lodgers upon arrival (the early bird gets the queen?). We have reserved our housing block from November 27 to December 1. If you would like to stay outside these dates, indicate those dates when you register. These additional dates will be paid for on your own when you arrive at Wycliffe. The room rates may vary depending upon the number of people staying in a room. The maximum rate should be $56 / night plus a 12% hospitality tax.
Refunds: Prior to September 27 (100%), prior to October 16 (75%), prior to November 1 (50%), after November 1 (0%)
Air Transportation: For those flying in, use the Orlando International Airport (MCO). We ask that every participant attend the entire consultation, for the sake of community and continuity (please do not book departing flights before 6:00 p.m. on Friday)
Shuttle: We have arranged a low-cost alternative shuttle from the Orlando (MCO) airport. For $24, a two-way shuttle can be reserved. We are not able to accommodate one-way shuttles only. This is substantially less than a taxi ($70 round trip) or car rental.
Diamond Cab $35 one-way (Ouch!) 407-523-3333
Car Rental: You can rent your own at the airport.
Questions: Contact Emily Farrand at email@example.com.
Comment from 2011 Consultation: “The content was exceptionally good and I’m still amazed at the quality of the participants and the key ministries represented. Of all the different conferences I attended this year–and I do this a lot–yours was overall the most valuable experience (especially pound for pound!)” Tom Watkins, Director of Strategic Initiatives & Partnerships, TWR
